Terry Fong is the Director of the Intelligent Robotics Group at NASA Ames. IRG conducts applied research in a wide range of areas, including computer vision, geospatial data systems, human-robot interaction, interactive 3-D visualization and robot software architectures. In 2009, IRG co-developed “Mars in Google Earth” and “Moon in Google Earth” with Google; they remotely operated one of their K10 planetary rovers to scout portions of Black Point Lava Flow (in Arizona); and they used their GigaPan robotic camera for science, education and journalism.
From 2001-2004, Terry was the Deputy Director of the Virtual Reality and Active Interfaces Group at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), and a joint Post-Doctoral Fellow with the CMU Robotics Institute. Before that, Terry was a Co-Founder and Vice-President of development for Fourth Planet Inc., a start-up company that created interactive, 3D visualization software.
