    PCL represents our most important product: a large scale, BSD licensed open project for point cloud processing. At Open Perception we are working hard to provide you with the best possible tools for advanced 2D/3D perception algorithms, large scale data visualization and editing, and mobile and web manipulation.   • What are we working on

    Together with our partners, we have created what we call code sprints, accelerated research and development programs where we pair talented junior developers with senior mentors for 3-6 months of extended programming work. These code sprints are inspired from projects such as Google’s Summer Of Code, and are meant to create open source solutions for interesting 2D/3D computer perception problems. To keep our larger community up to date on everything that happens, we have created a blogging system where our developers are posting daily on their progress.

  • Large community. Large heart

    When PCL started as a project in March 2011, we would have never expected such a strong response from the academic and industrial community. In less than a year we have gathered an impressive list of research institutes, university labs, and companies, all collaborating for the same purpose: advance the state of the art, and simplify the work that young PhD students and commercial companies need to perform in order to build their products. We look forward for you to join our community!

What is it?

Open Perception, Inc. was incorporated in California in April 2012 as a Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation. We are an independent organization created with the purpose of supporting the development, distribution, and adoption of open source software for 2D/3D processing of sensory data, with applications in research, education, and product development.

Download PCL

Point Cloud Library (PCL), our large scale, open project for 3D point cloud processing, is available for download for multiple operating systems and platforms, including Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, Android and iOS. PCL is released under the terms of the BSD license, which means it is available for free for both commercial and research use.
